Flint/Lorenzen Project

Flint/Lorenzen Project

Over the last two years we have collaborated with the Village of Larchmont, Town of Mamaroneck and Westchester County to help plan and implement major renovations at Flint Park and Lorenzen Park, two precious local resources used by the entire Larchmont-Mamaroneck community.

Flint Park News

Congratulations to Mayor Liz Feld, the Village of Larchmont and Anthony Catalano of Woodard & Curran for winning the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation Achievement Award for the recent redesign of Flint Park.  The many volunteers and donors of FFK can take pride in this accomplishment as well.  In addition to the award, the Village has received loads of positive feedback from families and community members who love the user-friendly new park.

Ruth Green Field — the new full-size baseball field at the back of Flint Park adjacent to the water — will be ready to host its first games this fall.  The grass is finally coming in thick and green.  There will not be a prettier spot to play or watch a baseball game in all of Westchester.

Alexander Alma Memorial Field, a.k.a. the turf field, has been in constant use for exactly a year.  And what a difference it has made! Thousands of kids-aged 5 to 65-have played on the field at the youth, high school and adult levels in several sports.  Having a safe, reliable field in the mix has certainly allowed "more kids to play more."  Because the field can stand up to heavy use, it has accommodated more games and practices than several other local fields combined.  Since most of our grass fields are closed until April 1st, Alma Field made a huge difference in the early spring, allowing kids to practice on a safe surface instead of on asphalt.  And of course, when other fields were closed after rain, Alma was open for play.

The tennis courts at Flint have also been completely resurfaced.  Go see for yourself — they're amazing. The Millstein family of Larchmont made a generous donation to cover this cost.

Lorenzen Park News — Field of Dreams in the Making

The Lorenzen project-envisioned as a little league complex with three natural grass baseball fields--continues in the planning stages. Unfortunately, the initial proposed layout of 2 additional grass baseball fields at Lorenzen was rejected by the NY Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The DEC indicated that the 2 new fields encroached on the 75' "buffer zone" that extends out from the wetland boundary.

Woodard and Curran, the project's consulting engineers, revised the layout and re-submitted it to the DEC. The revised layout again includes 2 additional natural grass baseball fields, but re-oriented to accommodate the 75' buffer zone requirement. The DEC has not yet provided a formal response to the revised layout. Fields for Kids, The Village of Larchmont, and Larchmont-Mamaroneck Little League continue to work closely with Woodard and Curran to obtain approval for the new layout so that this much-needed field project can get underway.
